Dozens Killed in Ibadan Christmas Festival -Funfair
According to a recent report, a Christmas party was held in the city of Ibadan, Nigeria but a crush happened which took the lives of about 35 children and some others hospitalized.
The police disclosed to the media that apart from the 35 children who unfortunately died instantly from the crush, 6 others are currently hospitalized and seriously injured.
Although the major incident which led to the crash is undisclosed yet, witnesses opened up to the media that the crush happened just when the organizers of the events arrived at the venue with over 5,000 children already gathered.
In the first place, the organizers of the ‘funfair’ made a promise to gift people cash and food to celebrate Christmas. However, while the many people that were gathered struggled to find their way in, a crush happened and lives were lost.
Naomi Silekunola alongside eight others who are said to be organizers of the event have been arrested, says the police.
While the president, Tinubu has sent out his heartfelt condolences to the victims’ families, the Governor of Oyo state said that victims who were not dead yet were taken to hopistals across the city.
This ugly incident took place at Islamic high school in the City’s Bashorun District.
Unfortunately, some parents who agreed to speak with the media said they had taken their children to the venue before the start of the event which was scheduled around 5 hours later.
Sadly, they all went there because they were promised 5,000 naira by the organizers for each attendee only to lose their lives instead.
