I have Repented – Kidnap Kingpin Evans Begs Court For Mercy

Kidnap Kingpin, Chukwudimeme Onwuamadike, A. K. A Evans, who is convicted has begged the Lagos state Government for mercy as he told the State high court in Ikeja that he has repented of his crimes. He conveyed this through his lawyer on Thursday after taking his plea on the amended five counts bordering on murder, attempt to murder, and conspiracy to commit kidnapping

Evans’ case was preferred against he and his co-defendant by the Lagos state Government.

According to the prosecuting counsel, Sule Yusuf, Evans and his co-defendant, Joseph Emeka had on August 27, 2013, at about 10 pm, killed Peter Nweke along 3rd avenue in FESTAC town, Lagos state.

He also alleged that both of them killed another Chijioke Ngozi on the same day.

When the matter was called up, Evan and his co-defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges against them.

Reminding the court that Evans had applied for a plea bargain through his counsel (Emefo Etudo) as well as his co, the prosecuting counsel asked the court to further remand both of them.

However, Etudo who informed the court and newsmen of Evan’s repentance said;

“My client is now a changed man. He has been transformed. His reformation was made possible by the RCCG and the Federal Government which gave him a scholarship to study and become a better person.” He told reporters.

“My client is now a repentant person. He was a young man consumed by crime, but he is now remorseful. Presently, he is a 200-level student of the National Open University. In fact, he made A1 in all his papers in NECO while in prison. All this was made possible through a scholarship given to him by the Federal Government.

My Lord, we have asked the Lagos State Government to give him the opportunity to go around schools in the state to talk to youths about the dangers of crime.” Etudo said.

After confirming the plea bargain from the prosecutor, Justice Coker adjourned the case to 20th march 2025 for possible trial while the plea bargain remains under consideration.
