Gov. Makinde Promises to Reveal His Successor in January 2026
During the 11th Omituntun Ramadan lecture at the government house arcade in Ibadan, on Monday, Seyi Makinde, the Governor of Oyo state, promised to reveal the identity of his preferred successor come January 2026.
“In January 2026, we know that political activities will start. I will tell you the picture of the person that will be installed there.
Earlier in 2024, Makinde said;
“So those people that are campaigning to be the next governor still have to wait because I still have till May 29, 2027. And I’ll also have a say in who is going to become the next governor.”
Meanwhile, the Governor acknowledged that indigenes of the state would have to decide who their next Governor would be via their votes. However, he said “I’ll have a say, especially those in PDP will have me to contend with because I’m still the one controlling the structure.”
Makinde was re-elected as Governor in 2023 however, he’s currently not eligible to contest again. Therefore, in October 2024, that was when he announced that he’d have a say in the upcoming election.
The lecture titled; ‘Benefits of Being a Good Neighbour: An Islamic Perspective’, delivered by Yunus Teliat, the grand chief Imam of Ogbomoland, was graced by many attendees most of whom are Muslims.
Furthermore, Makinde urged them in Yoruba, to embrace the holy period in peace and promote peaceful coexistence with fellow Nigerians no matter their religion.
