Simon Ekpa Charged With Inciting Terrorism in Finland
Finnish prosecutors have revealed that they charged Simon Ekpa with inciting terrorism online.
In a statement, by the Finland’s National Prosecution Authority on Friday, it said;
“We have charged a Finnish individual in a case involving suspected public incitement to commit crimes with terrorist intent and participation in the activities of a terrorist group.”
While the authority identified him only as ‘A Nigerian separatist leader’ it was the Finnish public broadcaster YLE that identified the description as Simon Ekpa.
The authority revealed that the alleged crime was committed in the city of Lahti between 2021 and 2024 while Simon Ekpa was trying to establish Nigeria’s Biafra region as an independent state.
According to them, while Ekpa was detained in November, he would continually deny the charges against him.
Meanwhile, during the announcement on Friday, the prosecution authority said the prosecutor decided to drop charges against four others who were remanded alongside Simon Ekpa under suspicion of financing his activities due to a lack of evidence.
