Court Sentences Man to Death for Killing a Baby Because of Phone
A man identified as Obinna Eze has been sentenced to death by hanging in Delta state, for killing a 6 months old baby(Chimaobi Igwe) over an argument with his (the baby’s) mother over his lost phone.
At Delta state high court Akwukwu-Igbo Oshimili North LGA where the hearing took place.
Arraigned on a three count charge before the court on murder, attempted murder and causing bodily harm. These are crimes punishable under the section 320,319 and 335 of the criminal code laws of Delta State, respectively.
With the prosecution led by the state solicitor general and permanent secretary of the Ministry of justice-Mr Omamuzo Erebe. Including other counsels.
The dead child is said to belong to a woman who happens to be the Defendant’s fellow tenant.
On the day of the incident, the defendant was said to have been having an argument with the dead baby’s mother over his lost phone when he lost it and started beating the mother and child mercilessly.
According to the statement by the deceased’s mother, the defendant had attacked the mother and son with a cutlass and inflicted severe injuries on them.
As a result of this, the mother and son were rushed to the hospital.
However, a week after they were discharged, the little baby died. The grieving mother-Mrs Blessing Igwe narrated this in her statement as a prosecutions witness in the high court.
Furthermore, from the 3 witnesses whom were called by the prosecutor at the high court, a pathologist who conducted an autopsy on the child identifying the cause of death as three deep injuries on his head due to cuts from cutlass.
The court overruled all the defendant’s claims and sentenced him to death by hanging.
