Ebonyi State Commissioner Orders Arrest of Teachers Protesting for Their Salary

The commissioner for Education in Ebonyi state, Mr Paul Awo Nwabosi ordered the arrest of the teachers protesting for their 3 months salary.

On this order, the leader of the protestants was arrested and pushed into a stationed Hilux van.

However, this came after the commissioner met with the leader to threaten him to stop the protest or else he would deal with him, instead of addressing the issue of the protest.

Recall that on Sunday, primary school/local government teachers across the 13 local government areas of Ebonyi state took out to the front of Akanu Ibiam International Conference Centre(ICC) to request for their 3 months salary(watch video).

“Everyday they will call us for screening but no salary for us, no minimum wage, no bonus, no promotional increment, nothing for us for the past three months.” One of the protestants, Mrs Udu Nnenna had said to the reporters on that day.

However, even after the state Governor, Francis Nwifuru, told the council to pay the teachers within 24 hours, they did not pay them.
