Lagos State Government Bans Single-use Plastics in the State

In a statement on Monday, the Lagos state commissioner for environment, Tokunbo Wahab noted that there would be a complete restriction on the use of disposable plastics in the state from January 2025.

Recall that in October, the govt placed a ban on SUPs and mentioned that in January it will be completely effective as the ban would turn to a total restriction.

Interestingly, January is here and the restriction is likely to take effect in 2 weeks time.

He also mentioned that the need for this implementation is to reduce the littering of these stuff in the state as it makes it messy.

“There has been a noticable improvement in the amount of styrofoam littering in Lagos when the ban was first implemented.” Wahab said

Recall however, that the same Lagos state Government has already placed a ban on social gatherings and activities, Details.

Following all these bans and restrictions, the commissioner for environment has made it clear that they are only after the health and sanity of the people by helping them keep a sane and clean environment.

“The complete prohibition of SUPs cannot be reversed. Discussions about how to phase them off are presently underway .” He stated clearly.
