Ekiti State high court has sentenced a 26-year old man to 7 years in jail for stealing a N64,000 worth of phone and 8,000 naira, in 2022.

The court which was ruled by Justice Lekan Ogunmoye was on a single charge of armed robbery.

Notably, Omodara Dada was arraigned to court on 19th July 2022 and his crime was against section 312(2) of the criminal law of Ekiti State.

However, the victim who spoke on the incident said he’s a hotel manager;

“On that fateful day, I was sleeping in my hotel only to suddenly wake up hearing a sound, when I looked I saw the defendant trying to dismantle my plasma television. I wanted to shout when he brought out a knife and threatened to stab me if I shouted.” The victim narrated the incident.

He went further to say that he discovered that the defendant had taken his phone worth 64,000 naira and 8,000 naira cash which was on his table.

Narrating his arrest, he said he was able to grab the defendant from behind when he tried to escape and kept shouting while others came and joined forces. However, the defendant struggled to escape but could not as there were many people who had already gathered.

“He was overpowered with the assistance of others, apprehended and handed over to the police ” he said.

At the court, the defendant was not able to provide a witness or prove his innocence.

However, the prosecutor, Albert Adeyemi, called about three witnesses presenting evidences of the crime including the stolen N8,000, a knife and the victim and defendant’s statements.

All the presented evidences proved the defendant guilty of the charge as the judge sentenced him to 7 years in jail.
