Omoyele Sowore, former presidential candidate and Activist has been granted #10m bail with a single surety.
According to the report, the said surety is expected to be a responsible individual with landed property which must have equal value with the bail. Additionally, this surety would be required to submit original documents of the landed property with passport photograph, to the registrar of the court.
According to the ruling of the bail application by justice Musa Liman, Sowore must meet the conditions of his bail within 24-hours or he would be remanded in police custody.
Additionally, he is required to deposit his international passport to the court as one of the conditions for his bail.
Sowore was facing 17 counts of cybercrime charges by the Nigerian Police and he pleaded not guilty to the charges.
These charges by the Nigerian police against him came after he tweeted about Kayode Egbetokun, an Inspector General of Police whom he called an “illegal IGP”.
However, the court reached a decision for his bail after the bail application ruling was adjourned to today, Thursday, 30th January, 2025, following an argument by his counsel Marshall Abubakar and Udey Jonathan, the prosecutor.
