Kano Couple Arrested For Marrying In a Restaurant
A man and his wife have been arrested by Kano Hisbah Board for solemnizing their marriage in a restaurant. This solemnization took place at Banana Restaurant in Zoo Road, in Kano state.
According to the report, the Deputy Commander General of Operations of the board, Dr Mujahideen Abubakar, confirmed the incident to them on Thursday.
“It’s very unfortunate to tell you that the solemnisation of the purported marriage was conducted in the restaurant by friends of the man without the consent of the parents of the couple,” Abubakar said.
He mentioned that the arrest was possible following a rip-off on Wednesday night which led to Hisbah personnel raiding the said restaurant.
Speaking on the issue of violating the Shari’a in the state, he termed the act as “undesirable element”.
“We arrested the couple. We are trailing friends of the groom who fled the restaurant after our personnel stormed the place,” he added.
Abubakar who also said the wedding solemnization was ‘illegal’ said they have announced a man hunt for all the guests who were in attendance, he said the it violates all wedding conditions for marrying without the consent of both parties’ parents.
