Police Officer Remanded For Raping Teenager
The Deputy Superintendent of Ogudu Police Station in Lagos, Owolabi Akinlolu was remanded in the maximum correctional centre, kirikiri over a rape allegation involving a 17 year old girl, in his office.
This decision was reached at the Ogba magistrate court on Tuesday.
According to the report, Owolabi had invited the young girl on 29th june to his office on the grounds that he had captured the suspect who stole her phone, only to lock the door after she got there and raped her.
Prior to that, the poor girl was said to have been returning from Ikeja with her grandmother and siblings when they got involved with robbers who stole her phone, two weeks before the rape incident.
Consequently, at the magistrate court, it was said that Owolabi’s alleged crime violates the section 137 of the criminal law of Lagos state.
Therefore, the prosecution counsel who provided a seven page affidavit for backup argued that Owolabi should be remanded. The judge, Magistrate O.O. Fagboun accepted the motion and ordered the remand of the officer and had his case adjourned untill 11th march 2025.
However, the mother of the victim, Mrs. Aramide Olupona accused the police and said they were trying to cover up the incident.
According to her, family of the officer had met with her and pleaded that they dropped the case pointing out that the suspect was to retire in December 2024.
