Man Who Was Jailed For #1.1m Debt Regains Freedom After Public Donations
One Jonathan Biodun, who was earlier jailed over a ₦1,137,000 debt has been freed after the general public made donations to free him.
Jonathan expressed his gratitude through a post on the Ray of Hope Prison Outreach’s X handle, on Friday.
“Hello, everyone. My name is Thomas Jonathan Biodun. I have just been released from Apapa Kirikiri Correctional Centre. I’m using this opportunity to give a heartfelt thank you to everyone who donated, contributed, or supported me in any way. I am so grateful.
“You have no idea what this freedom means to me. From the depth of my heart, I’m saying a very big thank you to you all,” he said in the post.
Jonathan’s case came to light when he handed a letter to some media influencers who visited Apapa Kirikiri correctional centre where he was, for a football match with the inmates.
When the influencers were about leaving, one of the prisoners discreetly handed one of them a hand written letter which they snapped and posted on Twitter.

The letter read;

“Please help me out. I know you all on Twitter. I have seen how you’ve helped people online.
“I cried online for assistance before being remanded in this correctional centre, but Agba Jon Doe tagged me a scammer.
“My name is Jonathan, and I am here because of a debt of ₦1,137,000.
In the letter, Jonathan further apologized to any of them in case he had “misyarned” to them in time past and asked them to help him.
Sir Dickson, @Wizarab10, amplified the call for help as he was part of the influencers who paid the visit.
Interestingly, in less than two weeks, Jonathan’s debt was raised and he’s finally free.
