Police Arraign Lagos Bizwoman and Two Sales Boys For N20m Footwear Theft
A 25-year-old businesswoman, Rose Elijah, and two sales boys, Obinna Okere, 34, and Ikechukwu Ukonu, 32, were arraigned on Tuesday at the Lagos State High Court on charges of stealing footwear valued at ₦20 million.
During his statement at the court, the prosecuting counsel, Assistant Superintendent of Police Austin Nwabuisi, said the defendants had other accomplices stating that the crime was committed between January 2023 and March 2023.
According to the prosecuting counsel, the other defendants (the two sales boys) worked for one Mr Ikebube Sabinus and stole 130 cartons of foot wears worth about #20m.
Apparently, the business woman, Rose Elijah had “knowingly and fraudulently” received the stolen 130 cartons of variety of foot wears and in different sizes, around March 9, 2023, alongside others who are yet at large.
In his argument, Nwabuisi stated that the offences committed are contrary to Sections 411, 287 (7) and 328 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015.
However, the defendants pleaded not guilty and we’re granted #2m bail each on grounds of two sureties each person one of whom must be blood relative and reside in Lagos and shall provide evidence of tax payment in two years.
The case was therefore, adjourned to 2nd June 2025.
