Robber Dies in Lagos After Angry Mob’s Attack

The Lagos state police command has confirmed the death of a robber suspect whom they had saved from lynching at Akerele Junction in Agege.

Spokesperson of the command, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, who disclosed details to newsmen on Monday said the police had rescued and taken the suspect to the hospital where he later died.

“On March 15, a distress call was received at Isokoko Division about a suspected armed robber who specialised in snatching mobile phones from commuters.

“The suspect was apprehended and beaten to a stupor by an angry mob, who were on the verge of lynching him.

“Upon receiving the report, police teams were swiftly deployed to the scene. The mob fled upon sighting the police.

“The suspect, who had sustained severe injuries, was rescued and rushed to the hospital for treatment, where he later died,” he said.

According to the statement, Hundeyin said the suspect with his accomplices who are currently on the run, stabbed a middle-age woman and took her phone.

He disclosed that the victim was admitted to the hospital and she is receiving treatment stating that the corpse of the suspect was deposited at the morgue already.

“The police are still investigating,” he assured.
