Court Jails Man For Accusing Registrar of Plotting Murder, Osun State

31-year-old Rotimi Orowole was on Tuesday, in an Osogbo high court sitting, sentenced to 3 years in prison with hard labor, for accusing a varsity ex-minister of plotting murder.

Earlier, Orowole had accused the former Registrar of Ede Federal Polytechnic, Dr Alhassan Ogunleye, of hiring him to assassinate the then Rector of the institution, Dr John Edaogbogun, the Chief Medical Director, Dr Olofu Romanus, and another official, Mr Elkanah Aruwajoye.

According to him, Ogunleye had supplied him a pump-action gun for the alleged assassination plot.

However, during his testament, the accused who recounted how everything transpired.

When the case was transpired to Osun state from Lagos, Ogunleye was cleared of the charges against him after nothing was found on him.

However, in the court sitting under Magistrate Oyindamola Daramola, Orowole was found guilty of three coins of defamation, possession of firearms, and false accusation.

Therefore, considering that Orowole has no previous criminal record, the Magistrate sentenced him to 2 years in prison with hard labor and fine option of N50,000, each for the three crime counts.

So, in total, he is to serve 6 years in prison with an option of N150,000 fine in all, starting from 18th march, 2025.
