Court Arraign Two Igbo Women For Alleged 75m Forex Fraud

47-year old Blessing Chima and 49-year old Chikamson Williams, were arraigned before the Federal high court on Wednesday for suspected #75m fraud.

Before Justice Ambrose Lewis-Alagoa, the prosecuting officer, S.O. Ayodele said the defendants committed the said crime on 4th and 5th of July. They were both charged on four counts of conspiracy, obtaining by false pretence, illegal conversion and money laundering.

According to the prosecuting council, the first defendant, Chima, had obtained N75m(50m and 25m) from Mr Lanre Afebuameh promising to exchange it for Chinese Yen.

On the other hand, Williams had stolen a total of N140m from Afebuameh who happens to be the complainant.

According to Me Lanre Afebuameh, Blessing Chima had told him that she was a licensed Bureau de Change operator before he transferred N25m and N50m to her to exchange for Chinese Yen.

He further explained that it was not his first time transacting with Chima before she decided to scam him after she sent only N3m worth of Chinese yen to the customer.

However, the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges against them.

The prosecuting counsel explained that the crime committed by the two goes contrary to Sections 1(1) (c) and punishable under Section 1(3), 383, 390 (9), 18 (1) 2(d), 3, 20 (a) & (b) of the Advance Fee Fraud.
