Nandi-Ndaitwah Sworn in as Namibia’s First Female President
Namibia has sworn in her first female president, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah.
After winning last year’s election, the 72-year old was sworn in on Friday to resume office immediately.
During the event which was initially hosted at he Independence Stadium but was later moved to the State House due to heavy rain, heads and dignitaries from across Africa were present.
Nangolo Mbumba, the outgoing president successfully handed over power to Nandi-Ndaitwa.
In her vote of thanks, Nandi-Ndaitwa said;
“While we celebrate the progress we have made, there’s still a lot that needs to be done.
“We can make our politics during the campaign and so on, but once it’s over, we must build Namibia together.”
She was warmly received into office.
