51 Involved in Ekoli Edda Crisis Surrender Weapons, Gov. Nwifuru Grants Amnesty, N2m Each
Following the crisis between the people of Ekoli Edda, Edda LGA in Ebonyi state and the Egbor and Urugbam in Cross River State over a palm plantation— Ebonyi state Governor has granted those who were involved (from Ebonyi state) amnesty.
These are not the victims of the crisis, but those who fought against the other community— were at the front of the war and took several lives.
After they were arrested, they were taken for a six weeks training with the Nigerian military. They surrendered their weapons and acquired skills.
After the period had passed, the Gov reinstated them and empowered each of them with N2m to start.
Meanwhile, those who lost their loved ones and families got nothing, while those who fought were given grants.
In a statement by the State Government, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Dr Monday Uzor, stated that the state Government partnered with the Nigeria army to get the Ekoli Vigilante to Surrender their weapons and embrace peace.
The statement also revealed that those who were empowered surrendered eight mortar bombs, 29 AK-47 rifles, and 21 pump-action guns, willingly.
After their training in fields including carpentry, electrical and solar installation, fishery and poultry farming, paint production and painting, plumbing and tiling— The General Officer Commanding 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, Enugu, Major General Oluremi Olatoye, represented by the Commander of the 44 Engineering Brigade, Brigadier General O.
