NAPTIP Raids Popular Abuja Hotel, Rescues Seven Iraq–Bound Girls
The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons(NAPTIP) has disclosed how seven women whom are believed to be victims of intended human trafficking in a popular hotel in Zamaru, Abuja.
In a statement by the NAPTIP’s Chief Press Officer, Vincent Adekoye, on Sunday, he said the girls were being prepared for trafficking to Baghdad, Iraq, for exploitation.
He disclosed that the operation followed a rip-off from suspecting individuals who have been seeing strange looking men going in and out of the hotel as well as the unusual movement of young girls. Six of the girls were taken from Lagos while one was from Delta State and they were taken under the guise of caregiver jobs in Iraq.
During the raid, the hotel manager was also arrested.
“They told me that I would do a househelp job in Baghdad and I would receive a good salary every month.
“I believed them because I know Baghdad is in another country. Dem no tell me say I dey go work for Iraq,” one of the victims said.
