Two Dead From Abia Gas Factory Explosion, Others Hospitalized
A Chinese firm in Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State, Inner Galaxy Steel Company, in Asa, recorded a tragic explosion on Tuesday which took lives.
The state command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Maureen Chinaka confirmed the death of two people on Thursday.
According to reports, the explosion was caused by a gas valve which had been faulty.
The Ukwa West Mayor, Pastor Dike Briggs Nwankwo who visited the scene on Thursday said the CCTV revealed that the explosion occured when a customer was handling the faulty valve.
“The social media was flooded with various reports, some claiming that as many as 20 people had died. I immediately left my office and rushed to the factory. When I arrived, I was taken straight to the affected section, where I saw that the explosion had completely ripped apart the roof.
“Twelve people were affected, two have died, and the remaining 10 are receiving treatment at a hospital in Port Harcourt. As of this morning, I can confirm that they are responding well to treatment,” he said.
NEWSMAXNG reports that the Ebonyi state Government on Friday, moved to ban all gas stations close to residential areas following numerous explosions and causalities.
