Roof Collapses at Nightclub, Governor, 100+ Others Lose Lives
Authorities have confirmed the death of no fewer than 100 people at Jet Set nightclub in Dominican Republic’s capital Santo Domingo while Rubby Peréz preformed.
According to the report, Rubby Peréz, Governor Nelsy Cruz of Monte Cristi province and Octavio Dotel; 51 – a former Major League Baseball pitcher, were among the people who died from the unfortunate incident.
In a video footage of the incident on the internet, singer Rubby Pérez was performing on stage when the roof collapsed on them – after a man standing close to the stage pointed to a direction, noting that something was shaking.
According to one of Peréz’s band member who confirmed that the incident happened around 1am, it looked to him like an earthquake.
“I thought it was an earthquake,” he said.
Jet set being a popular night club in the city, usually hosts up to 400 people for concerts, clubbing, etc and apart from 113 who died from the Tuesday tragic incident, more than 100 others are seriously injured while others remain trapped under the roof.
While rescuers rally to find those buried under the fallen roof, the Emergency Operations Centre’s director (COE), Juan Manuel Méndez, said he’s praying that all those who’re trapped would be rescued alive.
However, the death toll is likely to rise higher.
