Assault On Journalists : Commissioner Of Police Apologizes, Remove DPO
The Rivers State Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju on Friday,11th April,2025 visited the Nigeria Union of Journalists(NUJ), Rivers State Council, Secretariat where he tendered an unreserved apology to the union and the Journalists who were assaulted by some Police officers in course of covering the protest on Monday, 8th April, 2025.
CP Adepoju also told the council that the Divisional Police Officers incharge of the jurisdiction where the officers came from have been removed. The Rivers Police Boss stated that he will continue to talk to his men to be civil and erring officer(s) will be sanctioned accordingly.

Responding, the Chairman of NUJ in Rivers State, Paul Bazia commended the CP for the step taken so far. Mr Bazia urged the CP to ensure the officers who assaulted the Journalists are punished in accordance to the law.
Recall that the NUJ, Rivers State Council had issued fourteen days ultimatum to the Police to tender an apology.
The Rivers NUJ and the Police also agreed on modalities to prevent reoccurrence of the incident. Highpoint of the visit was taking of group photograph.
The Commissioner of Police was accompanied on the visit by his Deputy Commissioners of Operation and State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Administration and Finance, Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe Koko while the Secretary, Treasurer, Assistant Secretary, others were all in attendance.
