The Lagos state Independent Electoral Commission(LASIEC)has set July 12, 2025 as the official date for Local Government Elections in the state.

According to the LASIEC’s Head of Public Affairs, Tope Ojo, who made the announcement on Friday, supplementary elections are set for July 19 Incase the need arises.

This election is for the 57 council chairmanship seats and 376 councillor-ship positions  across the 20 Local Government Areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas.

Following this announcement, the commission has slated for all registered parties to meet on Tuesday stating that Election Guidelines will be published on April 17, to provide a framework for the elections and timelines for candidate nominations and campaign activities.

According to the commission’s timetable, election Campaigns and rallies can begin from April 18 to July 9 while, substituted and Only Candidates must complete entries between June 18 and 25th.

The commission has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening grassroots democracy through a credible electoral process, urging all citizens to play their roles well and ensure a peaceful election.
