May Day: Gov. Nwifuru Announces N10k Cash Gift to Ebonyi Workers

The Governor of Ebonyi state, Francis Nwifuru has announced; at the May day celebration in Abakaliki, the state capital, on Thursday— a 10,000 naira cash gift to workers in Ebonyi state to wish them a happy workers’ day.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the 2025 Workers’ Day is tagged: “Reclaiming the Civic Space in the Midst of Economics Hardship”.

Describing them as the engine room of the government, the Governor said he is indebted to the state workers under his watch.

“Today’s May-Day celebration is the reflection of workers contributions to nation building.

“I understand the challenges you face; my administration is committed to tackling them. We are committed to promoting conducive Civic space for workers,” he said.

With the 2025 Workers’ day tagged “Reclaiming the Civic Space in the Midst of Economics Hardship” — Prof Ogugua Egwu, Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Mr Chidi Igboji of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) had earlier lauded Nwifuru for implementing the minimum wage of N75,000.

The union also requested the Governor to deploy shuttle busses to the Centenary city, improve housing projects and increase Retirees’ Pension.

“The workers in the state are in serious need of improve housing projects due to the high cost of rentage in the state. Provide more housing estates for our members.

“There is need to increase the pension of retirees as it’s obtainable in other parts of the country. Equip government offices in the secretariat among others,” they said.
