Pep Guardiola to Take a Break From Football After Contract With M'City Ends

Pep Guardiola to Take a Break From Football After Contract With M’City Ends

Pep Guardiola has revealed that he would be taking a break from coaching after his 2-year extension contract with man city comes to an end.

The Catalan had signed to extend his stay with the Manchester United in 2016 which would end in June 2027, marking his 11 years of being with the club.

Following his contract, 54-year old Guardiola has helped City achieve a reasonable level of success —after his previous four years as Barcelona’s manager from whence he took charge of Bayern Munich for three years.

In one stance, he has led them to achieve six of the past nine Premier League titles —marking city’s first  Champions League crown as part of a treble in 2022/23.

Despite all these, the Catalan has had it tough this season leading to his decision — while speaking with ESPN — he stated that he is yet to make retirement plans and expressed that he would not know how his impact would be felt even after leaving the team.

However, he had cleared that his break period is not scheduled yet as it would happen whenever he is “done here”.

While being on the fourth place of favorite clubs — City was meant to play Wolves on Friday – and had wrapped up five straight Premier League titles in the last season.

Having about four more premier league games to go for the season, the Manchester United has suffered a great lag — with 21 points behind on the champions Liverpool game, the team has greatly fought to be eligible for the next season’s Champions League.

With all these attributing to how tough it has been for Guardiola and leading to his decision to take a break — the manager says he expected failure at some point but never expected it to be so brutal.

“After my contract with City, I’m going to stop. I’m sure. I don’t know if I’m going to retire, but I’m going to take a break. How I want to be remembered, I don’t know.

“All coaches want to win so we can have a memorable job, but I believe that the fans of Barcelona, Bayern Munich and City had fun watching my teams play. I don’t think we should ever live thinking about whether we’re going to be remembered.

“When we die, our families cry for two or three days and then that’s it — you’re forgotten. In the careers of coaches, there are good and bad ones, the important thing is that the good ones are remembered for longer,” he said.

However, in another interview with Sky sports on Friday, Guardiola cleared that he has not scheduled his break period stating;

“I didn’t say I’m leaving now or at the end of season or the end of contract.

“I said when I finish my time here, be it one, two, three, four, five years, I will take a break.”
