Cult Members Kill Gang Leader For New Leadership Benefits

Bayelsa State Police Command has revealed that Wanemi Omuno who happens to be the leader of the Bobos cult group, was killed by some members of his gang who wanted a change of leadership.

The State Commissioner of Police, Mr Francis Idu, revealed this to journalists during a session in his office in Yenagoa said the deceased has been involved in nefarious activity and had altercation with the police on several occasions.

Omubo comes from the Nembe area in Nembe Local Government of Bayelsa State and was killed along Goodnews Street in the Azikoro axis of the state on Thursday, April 24.

However, the actual cause of his death was not known as different thoughts were flying in the air. Some people believed he was killed by some externals who ordered others to kill him to retaliate for the killings he had also ordered.

According to Idu, what happened was an intra-cult clash and the members of the bobos gang had lured their leader to make it look like a cult clash before killing him so they could benefit from a new leadership.

Despite being a beneficiary of the Presidential Amnesty Programme and leader of the Phase 2 Amnesty beneficiaries in Yenagoa, Omubo was notorious and had criminal records.

“It is on good authority that the deceased has been involved in nefarious activity. The last altercation with the police was over the issue of illegal gun possession.

“He was controversially influenced to be let off the hook, and that is why I have always said when you influence the release of a criminal off the hook, you are building a disastrous effect,” Idu said.

The commissioner also revealed the arrest of 50-year-old Mohammed Adamu, a native of Gombe alongside Adiamakubo Orubo, 37, over the disappearance of one a 26-year-old native of Kano State, Ashiru Ishiaku who disappeared with his tricycle on the 29th of April, 2025.

In another case in Onopa Community, Yenagoa Local Government Area, the police also arrested 28-year old Daniel for armed robbery attack on one Amarachi Emeachi who resides around Revenue House, Onopa.

She was allegedly attacked by four men armed with guns dispossessed her of her Redmi phone valued at N180,000.

In total, the commissioner mentioned the arrest of nine suspects who were involved in cultism, kidnapping, armed robbery, unlawful possession of firearms and murder, within the state.
