Court Fixes Date For Final Judgement On Natasha’s Suspension

An Abuja Federal High Court sitting on Tuesday has chosen a date to deliver judgement on Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s suit to terminate her six-month suspension by the senate.

Under Justice Binta Nyako during the sitting on Tuesday, the court agreed to judge the matter in the suit number FHC/ABJ/CS/384/2025 on June 27.

The defendants of the case include: the Clerk of the National Assembly, the Senate, the Senate President, Mr. Godswill Akpabio, and the Chairman of Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions, Senator Nedamwen Imasuen.

The lawmaker representing Kogi central had filed for the court to invalidate her suspension noting that it was done out of disobedience to a valid court order —a call to which the defendants challenged, querying the jurisdiction of the court to meddle.

The defendants noted that what happened was an internal affair in the senate and accused Natasha of going against the court’s April 4th order which mandated the parties involved in the ongoing war not to make any public utterances about what was going on.

While Natasha was represented by Mr. Jubril Okutekpa, SAN, Godswill Akpabio was represented by Mr. Kehinde Ogunwumiju, SAN.

NEWSMAXNG had reported the ongoing war in the senate involving Senate president Akpabio and Senator Natasha —whom during plenary on February 20 had a fall out over seat arrangements. The Senate had taken the matter to court alleging that she flouted rules of the legislative house.

A fight which would later take a drastic turn as Natasha accused senator Godswill of sexual harassment in a television interview which she granted on February 28.

On March 4, Justice Nyako took over the matter after the previous judge, Obiora Egwuatu, was recused after the senate president accused him of bias. Judge Obiora returned the case files.

Meanwhile, following an ex-parte application and an affidavit of urgency that was brought before the court by Natasha on March 4 — Justice Egwuatu issued an interim order mandating the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions to halt all disciplinary proceedings that was initiated against Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan untill determinations of the suit she had brought was reached.

He also gave a 72-hour ultimatum for the house to present valid reasons why the court should allow them discipline Natasha for misconduct without giving her the privileges stipulated in the 1999 Constitution, as amended, the Senate Standing Order 2023, and the Legislative Houses (Powers and Privileges) Act.

However, Justice Egwuatu made amends on the interim order and lifted the ban on the senate allowing it host activities within the period of the suit. The senate president would query the court why it should interfere in internal affairs of the Senate.

While all these continued, the lawmaker   would write a satirical apology letter to Senate president Akpabio asking him to forgive her for upholding her diligence and self respect.

A letter which the senate president found offensive and said she was mocking him — and petitioned the court to mandate Natasha to take down the post and tender a public apology which would be published with two popular newspapers.

Meanwhile, before adjourning the case on Tuesday, Justice Nyako said she would decide all the preliminary objections after she must have considered the issue of contempt that was raised by the parties.
