NAFDAC to Completely Ban Consumption and Sales of Sachet Alcohols, Sets Deadline

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has stated that the ban on sales and consumption of sachet alcohol across the nation would take full effect soon.

NAFDAC director in Abuja directorate, Kenneth Azikiwe, clarified that the ban was only lifted and lasts untill Dec. 31, 2025.

Clearing the air, the director said that information suggesting that the government permanently lifted the ban is misleading and urged the public to disregard such.

He however, informed that any sachet alcohol found containing less than 200 millilitres would be trashed out after December 2025 which is the set date for the lifting of the ban to end.

“There is a ministerial lifting on the ban of sachet alcohol, but it is only temporary and will be reviewed by Dec. 31, 2025.

“After this date, the full enforcement of the ban will commence.

“The minister granted this temporary relief to allow manufacturers and regulators time to collaborate and ensure a more structured and effective implementation of the ban.

“We have sensitised distributors, and we’ve emphasised that alcohol should not be sold to individuals under the age of 18, which is also clearly indicated on product labels,” the director said.

Lauding the Distillers and Beverages Association of Nigeria for supporting the awareness drive, Azikiwe assured that the agency is working effortlessly to regulate the level of alcohol consumption in the country.
