They Said I Was Dead and Buried – Nigerian Abroad Returnee Seeks Justice After N150M Left His UBA Account

A Nigerian foreign returnee identified as Ibhahe Hope Ehieribo is seeking justice after the United Bank of Africa (UBA) would not provide detailed information of his N150m.

According to the information shared by Nigerian human Rights Activist, Harrison Gwamnishu, the bank had claimed that the account owner was long dead and his family received his money.

Sharing his story, Ehieribo who said he has lived abroad since 2017 while he has owned a UBA account since 2007 wherein he has saved from his earnings abroad, all the while, asked Nigerians to help him; “I’m very scared” he said.

According to him, when he returned from abroad, he went to bank on May 15th, 2025 only to be told stories that he was dead and buried with no explanation where his money went.

When he requested an account statement, the bank called police on him.

The post reads;

“A Nigerian foreign returnee is seeking assistance after over ONE HUNDRED MILLION NAIRA in savings vanished from his UBA account.

“Bank officials informed him that someone claimed his money, alleging that he was DEAD and buried. An account statement is attached showing how the money left his account. The bank can’t give him where the money was transferred to.

“When he insisted on knowing what happened to his savings, they called the police to arrest him but the police refused to detain him seeing that he has a genuine complaint against the bank

“To date, nobody has informed him of what transpired with his money or who claimed it from the bank.

“Dear UBA Bank, please rectify this situation and credit his account. It is unjust for someone who has suffered abroad for years to return and find all his savings gone.”

In another video, the victim explained that he had up to N150m in his account but only found out that N100m was transferred without any trace of the rest and only 2,000 naira left in his account.

He further revealed that a Lagos branch of the UBA where he went to asked him not to make trouble or take the matter to social media untill it was rectified.

“They asked me to go home and expect their response on Monday, but they did not collect my information, no phone number. so, when I went back, they called the police on me but I refused to leave. I had to call my friend before the headquarter’s manager came and asked me what happened, after I explained to him, he shouted at them and asked them if they would have reacted differently if they’re in my shoes. He asked me to let him handle it and not take the matter to social media, but I’m scared….,” he lamented.

This has caused outrage on the internet.
