Bring 5k or 5 Litres of Fuel – Police Officer Demands Travellers For Failure to Provide ECMR(Video)

A viral video has captured moment a policeman demanded ₦5,000 or five litres of fuel from motorists for failing to provide a proof of Electronic Central Motor Registry.

The footage was shared on X.com by a user Teniola (@Teeniiola).

The police officer was seen confronting a group of travellers along the Benin Bypass, asking for the ECMR.

When they asked him to put call across to confirm that the CMR request was illegal, he objected then the motorist would be heard asking what he wanted them to do, then he said;

” Bring five litres of fuel.”

The motorist behind the camera then asked how much it translates to before he said “We’ll go and buy it, that’s 5k.”

The spokesperson for the Delta State Police Command, SP Edafe Bright, reacted to the video in his post on X;

“My God. Thanks for recording this. Little by little, all the moles will be taken out of the system.

“All these Policemen bringing shame to us, one by one, they will be sent out of the organisation. Maybe when they become jobless, they will go into content creation. This is embarrassing and the force is on it,” he said.

This is happening after the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, in July 2024, suspended the enforcement of ECMR registration for vehicle owners in the country after Nigerians cried out that the police was creating an opportunity to extort vehicle owners.
