EBOCAB For The Rich – Ebonyians Cry Out Over Heavy Charges on Newly Unveiled State Digital Transport System
The EBOCAB digital transportation system development by Ebonyi state Governor, Francis Nwifuru has sparked mixed feelings among citizens and residents.
In the early hours of Wednesday, Governor Francis Nwifuru had announced the unveiling of the system, on Tuesday. He stated the aim of the development; to create jobs, improve mode of transportation and grow economy.
“Yesterday, we unveiled our new transport system initiative – EBOCAB. This digitally driven system is here to improve our mode of transportation, create jobs, grow our economy, enhance the security of our people, and our overall wellbeing.
“I am exceedingly fulfilled and happy about this development. This service will bring comfort and security to our people commuting within and outside Ebonyi State. It will serve our airport, international market, and indeed, all corners of our State,” the statement read.
He further congratulated the management and charged them to be firm, focused and tap into the creativity and huge potential of the system to improve the lives of Ebonyi people.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to meeting the needs of Ebonyi people.
Meanwhile, the new system has sparked mixed reactions among Ebonyi citizens and residents.
While a lot think it is a welcome development in the state —as some other big states and cities like Lagos; have bolts, indrive and other such in operation —Ebonyi state would develope more if they got something like this, they thought.
However, with the charges, distance and other details on the app, a lot others think it’s a punishment and maybe not really meant for the market women, students, and average residents but high profiled men and women within the state.
A journalist, Odo Godfrey who shared his review on the internet said the standards are too poor for something being newly introduced.
In his analysis and others’ as is clearly on the app, a distance that would normally cost #300 with commercial tricycle (Keke) or maximum of #2000 for booking, costs about three times the price on EBOCAB.
“From International Market to Pastoral Centre = 7000 plus. From CPS to Enugu Airport 52,000 plus.
“However, I noticed there is price fluctuation. That shows poor standards at this initial level.
“Secondly, the demand for money in a wallet account before booking is extremely rigid,” he wrote.
On the pricing, Godfrey noted that the cab does not seem like it is for civil servants or marketers —neither is it for students or small business owners.
“It won’t change inner-city transportation fares in Ebonyi downwards.
“It is a good gesture for elites who want to catch up with business, conferences and trips outside Ebonyi.
“It will make the journey of a side chic to hotels easier because Oga will pay. No more ” I was waiting for my Keke or Okada man and that is why I came late,” he added.
Furthermore, the former broadcaster on Ebonyi radio station (Salt FM) pointed that the cost of booking a ride with EBOCAB should have been a lot cheaper since it is government owned.
“With their pricing for now Uba and Bolt is cheaper.
“A lot of people are using iPhone, they should try and inculcate the app in Apple Store,” he said.
