Uzodinma Pledges Commitment to Fighting Drug Abuse
Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the rehabilitation of drug addicts to completely end such act in the state and improve the society at large.
This was disclosed by the Special Adviser to governor on Narcotics and Illicit Drugs Monitoring, Mr Ezechukwu Obonna, while addressing journalists in Owerri on Friday. He further highlighted that the state government is actively fighting to curb the use of illicit drugs to mark the 2025 International Day Against Drug Abuse.
“I advise drug users and traffickers to desist immediately.
“The negative consequences of drug abuse are avoidable, and a drug-free society is possible.
“We must report drug traffickers. They are stealing the future of our youth, and we must not allow that,” he said.
Highlighting ways the government has tackled the issue, Obonna noted that it had donated Hilux vans to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency in Imo state, to support and make its operations easier.
Also, the first lady of Imo state had renovated a rehabilitation centre in the state for the NDLEA to facilitate the treatment and reintegration of drug users.
While he lauded Uzodinma for continually investing in the welfare of young people to enhance their livelihood and that of the entire citizens of Imo, he said the administration is actively supporting the NDLEA.
In conclusion, Obonna urged the residents of the state to join hands with the government to tackle the menace of drug abuse effectively.
