Retired Police Officers About to Protest Nationwide Over Unpaid Pensions
The Union of Retired Police Officers in Kaduna State has declared a nationwide protest themed “Mother of All Peaceful Protests” to address some unresolved pension challenges that retired police officers enrolled in the Contributory Pension Scheme are facing.
This was contained in a statement by the group Chairman, Mannir M. Zaria and Vice, Danlami Maigamo, following the group’s monthly meeting at the Police Officers’ Mess in Kaduna. They disclosed that the protest would hold on July 21, 2025.
While the promise to lead a peaceful protest across the 36 states in Nigeria, the group explained that the protest is to demand the exit of the Nigeria Police Force from the Contributory Pension Scheme.
According to them, the inclusion of the force in the scheme has subjected them to untold economic hardship, financial embarrassment, and an alarming rise in depression and deaths among retired personnel.
They said; “We have no option but to embark on another peaceful protest tagged ‘Mother of All Peaceful Protests’ on July 21, 2025.
“As law-abiding citizens, we shall continue to pursue our demand for the Nigeria Police to be excluded from the Contributory Pension Scheme through peaceful means until our voices are heard.”

The union recalled how they Kaduna and Bauchi chapters led a protest between February 24 and March 3, 2025, at the National Assembly.
According to the statement, the protest was peaceful as they submitted petitions to the offices of the chairmen of the relevant Senate and House committees and the Director of the Department of State Services.
However, they lamented over the silence of the National Assembly, especially concerning the outcome of the public hearing on the Police Pension Board Bill held on November 19, 2024.
While they further emphasized that the protest would be completely peaceful, the group maintained that their agitation is rooted in legitimate concerns over welfare and dignity.
In conclusion, the union insisted that the Police Pension Board becomes independent stating that as the only solution to the “systemic injustice in the current pension regime”.
They further decried the silence of the necessary authorities while reaffirming committement to lawful engagement.
