Police Arraign 19-Year Old Tiktoker Who Climbed Billboard

The Kano State Police Command has arraigned 19-year-old man Ibrahim Abubakar who initially climbed a billboard over TikTok trend and threatened to kill himself if no celebrity showed up for him.

The young man who hails from Adamawa State, created the scene on Monday at Gadar Lado along Zaria Road.

While he was later brought down successfully, the Kano Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, disclosed that he was arraigned before Magistrate Court No. 5 in Gyadi-Gyadi, Kano, on a charge of attempted suicide.

“The young man, Ibrahim Abubakar, was charged to Magistrate Court Number 5, Gyadi-Gyadi, Kano, after being rescued by security operatives,” he said.

On the day of the incident, the PPRO had stated; “Security operatives rescued the young man and took him to the hospital for a check-up. We successfully rescued the teenager and provided him with food, as he had spent a long time on the billboard.”

While the court hearing is expected to go on for coming days, the action of the teenager has sparked controversy online since it happened.

While many think it’s a normal young age obsession, others say it is a result of damaged mental health and negative impact of social media.
