Anambra Police Launch Man Hunt For Killers of 13 Ebonyi Indigenes

The Anambra State Police Command has begun a thorough investigation into the killing of 13 Ebonyi State indigenes by unidentified gunmen, in Ogboji, a community in Orumba South Local Government Area of the state.

The violence on indigenes of Ebonyi state who were holding their monthly meeting had halted daily economic and social activities of the Anambra Community.

While some local sources claim 13 were killed, the police confirmed that 10 lives were lost.

One of the survivors of the attack, Augustine Odom — chairman of the Ebonyi community in Ogboji — said the attack came without warning and was shocking.

He disclosed that the attacked individuals hails from communities in Ebonyi state; Izzi, Ikwo, and Mgbo.

Odom and the treasurer who are now receiving treatment stated that they are conflicting with any group or individual that they suspect would have done such a thing to them.

They cried out that they were simply trying to gather as brothers and discover ways to help each other in another man’s land.

Odom recounted, “We were in the middle of our usual monthly meeting, held on the last Monday of every month, when the attackers came. They drove in a Sienna van and accused us of planning something against them. They demanded our minutes book, took it, and then ordered everyone to lie down before opening fire. Thirteen of us died instantly. I and the treasurer survived, though we were both shot.”

The Anambra State Police Command’s spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, who confirmed the incident stated that security operatives had secured the area and that an investigation was already underway.

He said, “We can confirm a violent shooting that led to the deaths of ten individuals in Ogboji on the evening of June 30, 2025. The police condemn this barbaric act and assure the public that the perpetrators will be tracked down and brought to book.”

He added that the injured victims were rushed to a nearby hospital, while the ten who were confirmed dead have since been deposited at the morgue.

According to Ikenga, the police are working with leads to capture the perpetrators of the evil act.
