Remi Tinubu Donates N1bn to Victims of Plateau Herdsmen Attacks, Says God Has Spoken Peace
The wife of the president of Nigeria, Bola Tinubu; Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has donated N1 billion to victims of herdsmen attacks in Plateau State.
After arrival, the first lady was hosted at the Government House in Rayfield, Jos, where she disclosed that the funds were not government owned but were raised through her Renewed Hope Initiative.
In her speech, the senator states that her heart bleeds whenever she hears of killings and bloodshed in Nigeria as she declared that she wouldn’t have to visit any state again on such grounds.
Announcing her one billion naira donation, the wife of the president stated that she would never have kept the money to herself as that would have been greed.
She reaffirmed Commitment to carefully utilizing her resources for the development of the country.
She said, “Today, I have come with a donation of one billion naira for the Renewed Hope Initiative. I do not have vast sums of money, but what I have is meant to bring life, not to pour money into a basket.
“If I kept money for personal gain, it would only serve to satisfy greed. But my goal is to use the resources I have for good, for the development of this country, not to waste them.”
Furthermore, the first lady stated that the words of a young girl who welcomed her at the airport assured her that God has spoken peace over the land.
According to her, the little girl had welcomed her with a bowl of fruits and vegetables, saying, “Welcome to the land of peace and tourism’”.
Quoting the bible, Mrs Tinubu said, “Out of the mouths of babes and sucklings, God has ordained perfect praise.” From the mouth of this child, there shall be peace in this land. Amen.”
Furthermore, the first lady recalled how she had been taken back to memory lane when her husband, president Tinubu reverted the old national anthem.
According to her, the second stanza instilled patriotism and unity in the hearts of Nigerians.
She appealed to traditional leaders to understands their roles in the land as the custodians as she urged them to ensure that peace is restored in the land.
The senator and first lady added that she is consumed with love for Nigeria and wouldn’t want to die in politics.
Therefore, she emphasized her appeal to the traditional rulers to make sure that peace is restored.
“God will help you to protect and preserve this land.”
In his remarks, the governor of Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang, lauded the first lady whom he described as the mother of the nation, for generosity and love.
Also, as other dignitaries who were present to welcome the first lady lauded her for her thoughtfulness, the vice president’s wife, Nana Shettima, affirmed that the Renewed Hope Initiative goes beyond food distribution.
She stated that it is about building a stronger and more compassionate community.
Mrs Shettima said; “The initiative also includes economic empowerment programmes, such as distributing grants of 50 million naira to each state and the Federal Capital Territory to support women petty traders.
“Additionally, cash grants of 200,000 naira each will be provided to 250 persons with disabilities in every state.”
