Buhari Died on Sunday for Attention – How Different Nigerians ‘Mourned’ the Death of Buhari

It is raining mixed reactions in Nigeria following the passing of the former president; Muhammadu Buhari who died on Sunday; 13/07/2025 in the UK.

The late president was said to have suffered a prolonged illness before he finally passed on Sunday at 84.

However, while some politicians are writing tears-driving tributes, some citizens are jubilating the passing of the ex president.

Human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore took to his social media page to list the sins of Buhari while he was still Nigeria’s President from 2015-2023.

According to Sowore, Buhari does not deserve to be mourned —he implied that he was a tyrant.

On the other hand, many Nigerians have taken to the internet to express how they feel about Buhari’s passing since the news broke out.

@morgan-xyz on X wrote; “I don’t even know what to say but some things should have been years ago. Rip Buhari, Gone too late!”

Another X user wrote; “You people saying ‘respect the dead’ are killing me, did Buhari respect the living”?

@phatbabeluuu wrote “Instead of praying for Buhari, I rather count rice”

Another User said; “Not Buhari randomly Dieing on a Sunday for Attention.”

In another unexpected turn, some citizens in Kastina, Kano and some other parts of the North took to the streets on Monday morning to celebrate the death of the former president.

In some videos of the rally seen by NEWSMAXNG, the residents including children, youths and older people were seen chanting with Buhari’s name in Hausa dialect in celebration of his passing.

“Buhari is Dead, remaining Tinubu,” they sang.

They ran around with plates which they clanged together as they sang. They were also seen smiling and laughing as they rallied.

Buhari’s death, according to some politicians, is a big blow on Nigeria as he was a ‘Democrat, strong and bold leader’.

Meanwhile, some other Nigerians suggested that the death of the ex president in 2025 clearly shows how unbearable Tinubu’s administration is for everyone.

“Even Buhari could not survive Tinubu’s leadership,” they said.
