Gunmen Attack Plateau State Again, Kill 27

A fresh gunmen attack on plateau State has left no fewer than 27 farmers, including men and women killed in Bindi-Jebbu of the Tahoss community in Riyom Local Government Area of the State.

The villagers in their report said that the attack on Monday was brutally as many more residents were injured and are currently receiving treatments in hospitals, including Jos University Teaching Hospital and Plateau Hospital.

The chairman of Riyom Local Government Area, Bature Shuwa, who confirmed the incident said he could not provide detailed information as he was on his way to the community at the time.

The National President of Berom Youth Moulders Association, Dalyop Solomon also confirmed the incident stating that the attackers are suspected to be members of the Fulani ethnic group.

According to him, the armed men unexpectedly stormed the community and started shooting sporadically and setting several houses ablaze.

He confirmed that 27 persons were killed, and many were injured adding that others who sustained different degrees of injuries were taken to different hospitals.

Sadly, he said, some of those who were admitted in hospitals gave up the ghost and their bodies have been deposited at the mortuary awaiting burial.

The state security agencies, including Operation Safe Haven and the state police command, have not released an official statement of the incident at the time of this report.

The spokespersons of Operation Safe Haven and the Plateau police command, Major Samson Zhakom and DSP Alabo Alfred, could not make a statement yet.

This attack is coming barely a week after the Plateau state government recruited 150 new agro-rangers as part of efforts to address the security challenge facing the state.

The state has continued to face devastating security issues as residents are crying to the government for urgent intervention and improved security.
