APGA National Youth Leader, Comr Onyebuchi Chukwu Demands Additional States For South East
The National Youth Leader of All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Comr. Eze Onyebuchi Chukwu, has appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to resurrect his conscience and use his office to initiate and support the creation of additional states in underrepresented regions.
In an open letter dated 18th July, 2025 and addressed to the president, Chukwu who is also the Founder/DG of Society Well-being Advocates of Nigeria, SWAN, reminded the president that injustice has prevailed in Nigeria more than citizens can bear.
He further revealed that there is an undeniable imbalance in the structure of Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.
Comr Chukwu said while some zones have seven states, others have six and five.
According to him, “Sir, it is not the will of God that one man receives more blessings simply because he married more wives and has more children. God’s blessings are equitably distributed and not tied to how large one’s family is, but to how hard one works and how justly one lives. It’s the duty of each family to prudently manage their own income.
“Your Excellency, the Nigerian state must not reward numerical advantage without merit, or punish those who choose to preserve their traditions, cultures, and religious values if not, we will be encouraging impunity and recklessness.
“There is an undeniable imbalance in the structure of Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones. While some zones have seven states, others have six and five.
“This imbalance is not only unfair, it also translates to disproportionate representation at the National Assembly, unequal access to federal resources, appointments, and development projects. In a federation that seeks equity and unity, such lopsidedness undermines both. Let all regions be given seven states.
“The call for a new constitution and to restructure Nigeria should begin with equality, and equality begins with fair representation. Every region should be given states and footing to speak, participate, and be heard in the affairs of the nation. No zone should have more states, more votes, more senators, more federal ministries, or more local government allocations simply because they have more states.
“Nigeria must not penalise people for choosing to live within their native values and communal systems. Our cultures are diverse, our traditions rich, and our religions varied but none must be made to suffer neglect in national representation. We cannot claim to be one Nigeria when some are more represented than others at the table where decisions are made.
“The time to address this injustice is now. Mr. President, history has brought you at this point to decisively begin a legacy of true national fairness by equalising the number of states across all regions. This would be an act of justice, not politics, of unity, not division.”
He pleaded with the president to use his office to the advantage of all Nigerians.
