Jigawa Gov’t to Start Manufacturing Drugs

The Government of Jigawa State has disclosed plans to establish a small-scale drug manufacturing company in the state to enable citizens’ access to quality medicine.

This was disclosed by the General Manager of the State Pharmaceutical Company, Nasiru Alhassan, in Dutse, on thursday during the review of the company’s activities over the past two years of Governor Umar Namadi’s administration.

While he attributed the company’s success to the current administration’s support, the State Ministry of Health, relevant stakeholders and the Jigawa State government as a whole.

Alhassan disclosed that 13 states have visited Jigawa to study JIPHARMA’s operations.

Furthermore, the manager revealed that JIPHARMA has already secured land in Gagarawa industrial layout for the construction of the factory.

He stated that the major aim of the company is to start producing essential drugs such as Vitamin C, paracetamol, and syrups, marking a significant milestone in the state’s healthcare sector.

He added that; “The planned establishment of the drug manufacturing plant is expected to create jobs, stimulate economic growth, and improve access to quality medicines in Jigawa State.

“This interest from other states is a testament to the company’s impact and reputation in the pharmaceutical industry.”

On the other hand, Alhassan clarified that the company’s sales have increased significantly over the past two years, due to an increased patient registration and the ongoing health insurance scheme in the state, which enables patients to access free drugs.

According to him, the growth has enabled the company to expand its operations and improve its services in the stated period.

Additionally, he revealed that Jigawa State hospital is mandated to purchase medicines from JIPHARMA.

He stated that as the reason the company is currently supplying about 90 to 95 percent of the medicines needed in the state, noting that as a reflection of the company’s reliability and quality of service.

Conclusively, Alhassan disclosed that the company has invested N900 million in building a new headquarters in Dutse as a way of strengthening its operations.

He disclosed that the state-of-the-art facility will enhance the company’s ability to serve the state and beyond.
