The deceased who was said to have been suspected a kidnapper had been lunched by angry mob before she later died at the General Hospital, Ilorin from severed injuries.
According to reports earlier, the woman was allegedly caught attempting to lure a child away when traders and passersby raised an alarm.
It was further alleged that Items including four ATM cards and several documents were recovered from her which fueled suspicions that she may have been part of a larger kidnapping syndicate.
Confirming the incident in a statement, spokesperson of the Kwara State Police Command, Toun Ejire- Adeyemi, said the woman died in the hospital and her corpse has been deposited there.
He further clarified that the deceased was a destitute and not a kidnapper as believed by her attackers, adding that the police had launched investigation into the matter.
Meanwhile, the family of the deceased simply identified as Khadijah, has cried out to the state government and security agencies to bring her killers to book.
A sister to the deceased who spoke anonymously on Friday narrated how she (the deceased) had suffered for years after their parents had died while struggling to cater for her.
Describing the act as barbaric and unjustifiable, she further revealed that the deceased despite her condition, had children who now remain without their mother.
“She was not a criminal, she was only sick. She battled with brain illness for many years. Sometimes, she would go out to beg for money just to feed herself and her children before returning home.
“We, her family, tried all we could to support her. It is very painful that people mistook her condition for criminality and ended her life in such a cruel manner,” she said.
She called on President Bola Tinubu, the state governor and relevant security agencies to intervene and ensure that those behind Khadijah’s killing were arrested and brought to book.
