I Will Restore Fuel Subsidy If Elected President – Kachikwu Says, Advises Atiku, Others to Rest

The Presidential Candidate of the African Democratic Party in the 2023 election, Mr. Dumebi Kachikwu, has expressed displeasure in the fact that politicians who have had numerous opportunities to serve Nigeria but failed, are now coming back trying to hijack the seat of leadership.

Kachikwu disclosed that he is ready to run again as the presidential candidate of the ADC in the 2027 poll and would being back fuel subsidy if elected.

In a recent interview, the former candidate urged Atiku and other aspirants under the ADC to go and rest to as the party has no space for them in 2027.

To Atiku whom he particularly called out for wanting to try again after he failed the last time, Kachikwu advised to go and rest.

“Many presidential aspirants from the south, including yourself, want to contest against the incumbent, Bola Tinubu in 2027. Don’t you think this can ruin the chance of the South to produce the president in the next election?” he asked him.

Kachikwu further highlighted that it is only right for the current president who is southerner to be challenged by another southerner stating that as a proof of equity and fairness.

He warned Atiku to keep off adding that; “We have a Southern President and if anyone wants to run against him, it should be Southerners who will run against him in 2027. That is the point I am making.”

Kachikwu further alleged that Nigeria’s problem was caused by the British whom he said gave a banana peel instead of a country.

He further stated how he would have handled the situation of the country if he was the president.

He said; “If I were to be president, seeing I have met this situation, I keep on saying that the job of a president, first and foremost, is to build national cohesion.

“If I become the president, first and foremost, I will address all inequities, all inequalities, all injustice in the fabric of our nation. I will address it squarely. There’s nobody who is above the law or above our country. In addressing that, I will then bring representatives of the people to a round table, where we then ultimately take on the difficult issues that have been bedeviling our nation for the last couple of decades.”

Kachikwu also addressed that the problem of Nigeria is lack of popularity as he highlighted that both the past and current president all were concerned about appointing their people to political positions while the rest of “everybody” suffered and were left behind.

Therefore, he pledged that he would tackle that issue once he becomes president and would make sure everybody benefits from his government.

Furthermore, Kachikwu stated that he would restore fuel subsidy.

“I don’t think it’s right that poor Nigerians are paying the price of our inefficiencies or our inability to manage a subsidy system. I believe that just a few Nigerians have abused the subsidy scheme and that the right thing to do is to go after those people, prosecute them to the full extent of the law and bring sanity into the system,” he said while clarifying that Tinubu did not remove Subsidy rather Buhari did while Tinubu only made the announcement.
