Tension as War Breaks Out Between Igbos and Yorubas in Lagos
The general public have been warned to avoid visiting the CMS Balogun Market Area of Lagos state after what seemed like a war broke out between ochanya boys on Wednesday.
In some clips of the incident that has been making rounds on the internet, boys were seen running after and beating one another.
According to eye witness sources, the fight started between two of the market boys who had been dragging a customer.
The fight would quickly escalate as one of the boys would stab the other believed to be a Yoruba and he bled to death.
In one of the videos, a voice would be heard telling the story of how Igbo guys and Yoruba guys engaged in the fight and destroyed shops and goods of some people in the market as they fought each other.
In response to the unfortunate clash, the Executive Chairman of Lagos Island Local Government, Hon. Prince Taiwo Ajibade Oyekan, led his management team on a fact-finding visit to the scene of the incident.
He expressed deep concern over the tragic altercation.
As part of efforts to ensure justice and prevent a recurrence, Hon. Oyekan also visited the police station to obtain firsthand information on the circumstances surrounding the fight.
He stressed that his administration was committed to maintaining peace, security, and order within the Lagos Island community.
He further assured market leaders and residents that necessary measures will be put in place in collaboration with security agencies to forestall such incidents in the future.
Meanwhile, at the time of this report, individuals were advised to stay off the market untill everything was settled completely.
