Peter Obi Donates N10M to Anambra Specialist Hospital
Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, on Friday, donated ₦10 million to the Aguata Anglican Diocese to support the acquisition and revitalisation of the Good Hope Specialist Hospital, located along the Basden Road, Isulo in Orumba South LGA of Anambra State.
Obi made the donation during his visit to the institution where he also re-emphasised that education, healthcare, and poverty alleviation are critical sectors for Nigeria’s development.
Accompanied by Chinyere Okunna, Obi expressed joy at contributing to a project that will enhance people’s access to quality healthcare while presenting the first tranche of a ₦10 million cheque.
Stating that the gesture signalled a major boost to healthcare development in the state Obi further urged leaders in the country to prioritise health and other critical sectors, stressing that investing in healthcare is one of the most meaningful ways to uplift society.
He said, “The decision to support the diocese was motivated by a personal conviction that investing in healthcare is one of the most meaningful ways to uplift society.
“Over the years, I have seen first-hand the transformative impact of projects executed by the faith-based organisations when given the right support.
“The Diocese of Amichi’s hospital facility, which I was privileged to support as governor, has been turned around so remarkably that it now runs one of the best Schools of Nursing in Nigeria.
“I am confident that this facility at Isulo will follow the same path and become a beacon of hope for our people.”
The Chairman of the Aguata Diocesan Hospital Board and Archdeacon of Ezira Archdeaconry, M.C. Obi, who led Obi on a tour of the facilities, expressed gratitude for his continued commitment to projects that uplift humanity.
The cleric said, “The access road to the facility was originally constructed during Obi’s tenure as governor of Anambra State, underscoring his long-standing commitment to infrastructural and social development in the region.
“The diocese plans to transform the Good Hope Specialist Hospital into a comprehensive health complex.
“Our vision is to establish within this facility a School of Nursing, a School of Midwifery, and a School of Health Technology, thereby creating a hub for training future healthcare professionals and meeting the growing medical needs of our communities.”
During the presentation of the cheque, Obi commended Tansian University for its dedication to training healthcare professionals, noting that strengthening the healthcare sector begins with equipping institutions with the resources needed to produce skilled professionals who will, in turn, serve society effectively.
