Police Arrest Three Students For Firing Gunshots During EBSU SUG Election, Victim of Stray Bullet Hospitalized

The police in Ebonyi state have arrested three people after a student was shot during a Students’ Union Government (SUG) election at Ebonyi State University, on Monday.

‎According to the Command, the suspects were arrested in connection with an attempt to disrupt the announcement of results during the SUG election at the university campus.

‎During the electronic election, the suspects fired a gunshot to disperse the crowd, while the election results were being announced and while they fled, the bullet would hit some of the students fleeing for their lives.

‎In a video of the incident obtained by NEWSMAXNG on Monday, the students of the university had gathered to here the result of the election which was conducted electronically via their mobile phones when the suspects began using tear gas on them and firing gun shots without caution.

‎The student whom the bullet struck was immediately rushed to the Federal University Teaching Hospital in Abakaliki for medical attention.

‎According to a press statement signed by the police spokesperson, SP Joshua Ukandu, on Tuesday, the swift response by police operatives on the ground led to the arrest of the suspects.

‎The police said it also recovered a locally made pistol used in the act.

‎The spokesperson further disclosed that the suspects were currently in custody and would be arraigned after investigations.
