The people of Dunukofia Local Government Area of Anambra State have endorsed the state governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, for his second term bid ahead of the governorship election that is coming up on November 8, 2025, in the state.
The resident came out in mass at the LGA headquarters in Ukpo to receive Soludo and his wife, Dr Nonye Soludo, as well as the Deputy Governor, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim, during the endorsement rally on Friday.
Endorsing the governor unanimously, the villagers also donated an undisclosed amount for the governor’s campaign.
The event was held alongside the community’s New Yam Festival, called “Iweife-Ubi”, with various traditional rulers.
Among the dignitaries who were present included the Chairman of Dunukofia LGA, Clement Ozumba, and other stakeholders, APGA faithful, various support groups, and traditional title holders, among others.
Speaking at the rally, Soludo emphasised the importance of local support, while appreciating the strong backing he received in the community during his election campaign in 2021.
Reflecting on past successes, the governor said, “I appreciate the people of Dunukofia for the strong backing I received during my campaign. We won resoundingly in Dunukofia in 2021.
“I have been told we will win all the wards and polling units again, and we are confident of our electoral victory. My administration has been making substantial progress. In the last three and a half years, we have been building the foundation.”
“There are massive improvements in the education sector. The public schools were in a deplorable state when we came. Today, it is no longer the case.”
The event also afforded the community the opportunity for the inauguration of the Dunukofia legislative building, where the governor addressed local governance.
He said “The local government system is working in Anambra State; it is the effectiveness of initiatives implemented under my leadership. I appreciate the people of Dunukofia for the legislative building.
“We will continue to work with the community as usual in the next four years of our administration. What we have achieved within this first tenure is greater than what our predecessors achieved in eight years.”
The governor took time to highlight some of his achievements in office, including the upgrading of public schools, building of hospitals, employment of 8,115 teachers, restoration of adequate security and improved standards of education in Anambra State.
He attributed these achievements to the awards Anambra public schools are presently winning.
In his opening remarks, the President-General of Ukpo, Cyril Ezewulu, assured Soludo that Dunukofia LGA are solidly behind him, insisting that his coming back for the second tenure is sacrosanct.
According to the president, the residents of the community would vote for no other political party except the All Progressives Grand Alliance in the upcoming November 8 governorship election.
Also speaking, the Chairman of Dunukofia LGA, Clement Ozumba, said Soludo has done well for Dunukofia and Anambra State in general, recounting some of his achievements including the 10.2 and 3.1 kilometres of roads which he said Soludo constructed for them.
