Sowore Set to Protest Lagos Demolition Despite Police’s Warning to Steer Clear
Despite warnings from the Lagos state police to avoid protesting, human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore is set to challenge the demolition of resident houses in the Oworonshoki area of Lagos state.
NEWSMAXNG reported that the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr Olohundare Jimoh, warned Sowore and others to not launch any Protest over the development despite the tears of the people.
The demolition which has been going on for a few days now has left many residents stranded and homeless as some were caught unawares and their properties destroyed.
Despite call outs on the internet by well meaning Nigerians, the Lagos state government under Governor Sanwo-Olu has refused to halt the demolitions and preserve the mental health, lives and properties of residents who are already having a tough phase in president Tinubu’s regime.
Addressing newsmen in the Iyana-Oworo axis of the Third Mainland Bridge on Monday in Lagos, the CP said the area is being demolished because criminals hide there to perpetuate evil.
He said; “We want to warn Sowore and his group to stay away from Lagos or face the full weight of the law.
“Anyone who wishes to organise a peaceful protest must follow the laid-down procedures.
“What we have seen in recent times is not protest but attempts to disrupt public peace. Anyone who engages in such will be dealt with according to the law.”
Meanwhile, on Tuesday morning, Sowore who is the founder of Sahara Reporters, took to his Facebook handle to declare that the state government would not be allowed to demolish people’s houses when it cannot even build another one for them.
The activist therefore, declared a “No to #Oworonshoki demolitions. No to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his king-partner land grabbers.“
He wrote; “We go again. A government that cannot build homes for the people must never be allowed to demolish the only shelter they have.
“We will protect homes. we will Protect families. We will not ler bulldozers help speedy up dispossession.
“We will resist!”
