True Nigerian Spirit! – Tinubu Hails Super Eagles Over 4-1 Win Against Gabon
President Bola Tinubu has commended the Super Eagles over their 4-1 win against the Panthers of Gabon in extra time to advance to the next playoff stage of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers on Thursday at Stade Mohammed V in Rabat, Morocco.
During the game on Thursday, Victor Osimhen scored twice and then after a first half without a goal, Akor Adams broke the deadlock early in the second half.
However, Gabon, equalised four minutes before the end of the match, forcing the game into extra time only for Chidera Ejuke to restore Nigeria’s lead with a composed finish before Osimhen extended the advantage, netting twice to solidify the result.
In a tweet on Thursday night, Tinubu said the win is a “true Nigerian spirit.”
He wrote; “This is the true Nigerian spirit of resilience against all odds. Do not stop until you secure qualification. Super Eagles, Keep Soaring… The nation stands with you. Soar!”
With this win, Nigeria has just moved closer to securing a spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where the final playoff round will determine their qualification status.
The national team will go on to face either Cameroon or the Democratic Republic of Congo on November 16, and the victor will advance to the inter-continental playoff for a chance at a World Cup berth.
