FG Vows Swift Rescue of Abducted Kebbi Schoolgirls, Reaffirms Duty to Protect Citizens

The Federal Government has vowed to ensure the female students abducted from Government Girls Secondary School, Maga, in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, return safely.

NEWSMAXNG reports that the students were abducted when gunmen attacked Maga Comprehensive Girls’ Secondary School in the early hours of Monday.

At least one staff member and an unspecified number of students were abducted while a school guard was injured.

Confirming the incident in a post on its WhatsApp channel on Monday, the Nigeria Police Force stated that tactical units deployed to the school engaged the assailants in a gun duel, but the bandits had already taken the students to an unknown location.

It added that operatives from the command’s tactical unit, in collaboration with the military and other security agencies, have been deployed to comb bandit routes and nearby forests to rescue the students and apprehend the perpetrators.

Meanwhile, in a statement by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, issued via his verified X handle on Monday, he revealed that the government expressed deep concern for the victims, emphasising that it shares in their pain and is committed to bringing the girls home safely.

Titled “FG vows swift rescue of abducted Kebbi schoolgirls, reaffirms duty to protect citizens.”the statement read, “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has reiterated that protecting every Nigerian, especially schoolchildren, remains a solemn responsibility of the State.”

Idris condemned the attack, describing it as “reprehensible,” while stressing that security and intelligence agencies have been given clear directives to locate and rescue the abducted students.

According to him, Tinubu’s government will not relent “until these students are safely returned and the perpetrators face justice.

The statement read, “We assure Nigerians that strengthening internal security remains a top priority. The Federal Government is recalibrating the nation’s military, policing, and intelligence capabilities to more effectively prevent these attacks and respond with greater speed and precision whenever threats arise.”

He added that Nigeria is cooperating with regional partners, noting that, “Through ECOWAS, the African Union, and the Multinational Joint Task Force, we are working to secure our borders and dismantle terrorist and criminal networks.”

To Nigerians, Idris urged all to remain calm and confident during the efforts to rescue the schoolgirls.
