Yuletide: NSCDC Deploys 4,000 Personnel Across FCT to Guarantee Public Safety
The Federal Capital Territory Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has deployed “4,000 personnel across the territory to ensure a peaceful Yelutide celebration.”
The corps Commandant, Olusola Odumosu, according to a statement signed by the command spokesperson, Monica Ojobi and released on Wednesday, ordered the deployment as part of measures to safeguard lives and property, as well as protect Critical National Assets and Infrastructure before, during and after the 2025 festive season.
The personnel were reportedly including officers from the Arms Squad, Crack Squad, CNAI unit, Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosives unit, Female Strike Force, Counter Terrorism Unit and the Agro Rangers, have been stationed across communities within the FCT.
The statement further revealed that security presence has also been strengthened at locations considered vulnerable or soft targets, including churches, shopping malls, recreational centres, markets, motor parks, amusement parks and facilities housing critical national assets.
To prevent emergencies and unforeseen security breaches, the command has also deployed undercover operatives for covert surveillance operations.
Areas described as black spots, such as uncompleted buildings suspected to harbour criminal elements, have also been placed under surveillance, the statement added.
The commandant directed area commanders and divisional officers to ensure adequate security coverage within their respective councils, warning against any lapses during the festive period.
“All hands must be on deck. I will not tolerate any form of breaches; ensure your personnel comply adequately,” Odumosu said.
He further charged officers and men of the corps to work in synergy with other security agencies, while adhering strictly to rules of engagement.
The commandant warned against harassment, intimidation of residents and accidental discharge of firearms, assuring residents of a safe and secure environment throughout the celebrations while urging them to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements or individuals to the nearest security agency.
“My personnel are ready to ensure a peaceful celebration, you have a part to play too by being proactive, vigilant, and ready to cooperate with law enforcement agencies for our collective good,” he said.
He warned criminals and vandals to steer clear of critical national assets and infrastructure, noting that covert officers and patrol teams have been deployed across the city and would not hesitate to apprehend offenders.
